I have been called a 'tool' a number of times in my life and never knew what to make of it. After compiling this list and finding out just how useful 'tools' are, I realise that those people were either really bad at being mean, or were paying me a compliment...
So, here is a nice list of design tools that you should find useful for you own projects...enjoy.
Fount is a nice little tool that allows you to identify any font on any website, so if you see something you like you can find out exactly what it is with this super easy to use tool.
Kuler is a useful little tool created by Adobe. It allows users to create their own colour palettes and upload them. These are the rated and available for download and import into you adobe products for use with your own projects.
This cool tool allows you to easily experiment and customise colours for use within your own projects. Very user friendly and has a clean and effective user interface.
This little gem allows you to experiment and compare typefaces in order to ensure you maximise the impact of your work.
This website has a huge collection of free fonts...What more is there to say? It's a great resource.
This impressive bit of programming allows you to upload an image of a typeface and it will 'like magic' try its best to tell you the name of the font.
MyFontbook is a nifty new tool for viewing your font collection from your web browser. The font viewer allows you to easily review and catalogue all of your installed fonts. It runs in your browser and there is nothing to install.
This is a great website which offers a large number of resources, tools and templates for various designed items and offers downloadable .eps templates for them.
A collection of a large number of amazing free icon sets for you to download and use within your own projects.
This cool tool allows you to use a free version of photoshop right in your browser, so if you need to quickly edit something on a machine that doesn't have you creative software on it, then this tool may come in very handy.
This software scans and repairs your font collection to find errors and corrupt files. This software goes for $69.99, but I will leave it to you to decide weather it is worth the investment or not.
Another resource with a great collection of impressive background patterns and textures.
Although not technically a tool, but inspiration plays a massive part in what we do. Therefore I like to consider inspirational resources as a tool for the development of my work. Here is a short list of some of my favourite places to scout for inspirational work online. The list is by no means extensive, but some of the best places online are included here.
Build your portfolio and get your work recognised, or just browse the work of others in awe. A great place to get inspired...
